A former Green party councillor has begun legal proceedings against the decision to dual a stretch of the A47 in Norfolk.
Dr Andrew Boswell claims the decision breaks the government’s own commitments on climate change because it would “increase carbon emissions just when the Government says we must reduce them”.
He claims the Government failed to properly consider the increased carbon emissions in approving the scheme. “A victory in this case would force the government to take a different approach and consider the cumulative impacts of road schemes when deciding whether to permit them,” he says.
He has raised more than £12,000 to launch a High Court challenge, starting with a legal letter sent to the Government before asking the Court for a judicial review.
