Gallows Corner: Pipework to be completed in the next week

In a follow-up to yesterday’s story about a further delay the opening of Gallows Corner in Romford, Essex & Suffolk Water have announced that it now expects to complete its works by next week, allowing TfL to do “the final work to allow the flyover to reopen”.

Scott Haxton, Transport for London’s (TfL) director of capital delivery had earlier confirmed that Gallows Corner is still not ready to be fully reopened, saying that during testing, Essex & Suffolk Water (ESW) identified further work which was required and TfL was “very sorry” for the further disruption.

However, Blair Mitchel, the asset management director at ESW told the Romford Recorder that the work is expected to be completed next week and that ESW too was “extremely sorry” for the delays.

He said: “During the final stages of testing at Gallows Corner we identified additional work needed to ensure the new water main was completed in the best way possible to protect vital water supplies to the area.

“We expect to be able to complete this work next week, which will allow TfL to do the final work to allow the flyover to reopen.

“We are extremely sorry for the continued disruption this causes and understand the frustration and inconvenience it has created for local people.”
