Residents are being invited to have their say and help shape the draft Road Safety Strategy for West Northamptonshire Council.
The Local Transport Plan (LTP), which was approved by West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) in March 2025, sets out West Northamptonshire’s transport priorities for the next five years and long-term strategy for maintaining and improving all aspects of local transport up to 2045.
The LTP identified the production of a series of supporting strategies and action plans over the next five years.
The Road Safety Strategy is one of the supporting strategies that was listed. Many people in their response to the consultation on the Local Transport Plan, said that improving road safety was important.
WNC has used the comments received, alongside feedback from Town and Parish and key stakeholders to develop a draft Road Safety Strategy.
The draft Road Safety Strategy is WNC’s long-term plan for improving the safety of the local road network in West Northamptonshire. The Strategy provides the framework for decisions, interventions and funding with regards to road safety.
“We want to work with communities to make roads safer, so that people feel confident to travel however they choose, by taking a proactive approach to identify and resolve issues,” said a WNC statement.
The draft Road Safety Strategy sets out the vision for road safety, driven by a review of existing conditions and evidence, and accompanied by the actions needed in the short, medium, and long-term to support a reduction in road traffic collisions and an improvement in road safety across West Northamptonshire.
The council are hosting a virtual information and question session on Monday 23 November 2026 between 10am and 11.30am via MS Teams where residents will hear a short presentation, followed by questions and answers session.
