JCT “brings Traffic Signals Symposium home” in 2026

The organisers of the popular JCT Traffic Signals Symposium have decided to change the emphasis of the 2026 Symposium and “take the event back to its roots” by concentrating more on its status as a learned meeting of traffic signals professionals, with less emphasis on the commercial aspects.

Director John Nightingale (pictured) told Highways News: “We highly value the contribution that exhibitors and sponsors bring to the Symposium but the degree of complexity that organising an exhibition alongside the lecture programme has on occasion diverted our attention from the core mission of providing the learned programme.

“As such we are taking a break from the exhibition in 2026 to allow us re assess and improve the lecture programme to make sure that it sticks to its core mission sharing the latest innovations and thinking around traffic signals, helping local authorities better manage their roads for drivers, public transport operators and pedestrians and cyclists. The programme will feature fewer, longer presentations, with longer plenary sessions.”

The new Symposium will take place on the 16 and 17 September 2026 at the University of Lincoln, close to JCT’s head office.

Although there will not be an exhibition in 2026, the company says it is likely that there will be a new exhibition offer in 2027. No firm plans have been made on the location of the 2027 Symposium but if the event is a success at Lincoln University it may well relocate there in the longer term.
