LCRIG launches new strapline ‘Making the case for local roads’

The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) is promising members they will be ‘Making the case for local roads’ after unveiling the phrase as its new strapline.

The group has also launched a new mission statement along with a set of overarching objectives which reflect how the group is working on behalf of the sector.

Its mission is to ‘Facilitate collaboration and innovation to help highlight the importance of local roads’.

The group’s objectives are as follows:

  • Bring together different stakeholder groups such as councils, politicians, the supply chain (including utilities), associations, academia, and key organisations to promote and share the positive work taking place across the sector
  • Develop initiatives and services which support members to achieve positive outcomes
  • Address the skills gap by promoting training and skills, encouraging the sharing of ideas and the introduction of a younger and more diverse workforce
  • Lobby central Government, representing our members to ensure that their voices are heard and help to secure longer term additional funding for the local roads sector
  • Work in partnership with the Department for Transport (DfT) to bring about change and create opportunities for the highways community
  • Host and facilitate events that lead to the sharing of innovation, best practice and subject matter pertinent to the sector

A new look website will encompass the new strapline, mission statement and objectives. This will be complemented by a refreshed Insight e-newsletter which will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

LCRIG President Will Britain said: “For a long time now LCRIG has successfully made the case for local roads. But we have never rested on our laurels and continue to drive forward change and innovation for the betterment of the sector. Our new strapline reflects the fact that local roads are important. By working collaboratively with our members, industry partners and local councils we will continue to make change happen. We will also keep reminding central government of the importance of local roads to help ensure that the work of local highway teams is recognised and reflected through funding which will subsequently ensure that road users see improved highways maintained to a standard that people expect and deserve.”

Chief Executive Martin Duffy added: “It is vitally important that we make the case for local roads and try to accelerate change. But we wouldn’t be able to do this without the help of our members. By working together, the roads sector can drive innovation forward and deliver value. We promise to make the case for local roads and highlight the ways in which this is being done.”

Valued at £400 billion, the local highway network is the largest and most visible community asset for which local highway authorities are responsible. It is used daily by most people and is fundamental to the economic, social, and environmental well-being of the country.

LCRIG will be using a ‘Making the case’ stamp to showcase projects and initiatives that have directly led to savings for the sector and/or examples of where money has been put back in as a result of work carried out.

Content Director Alec Peachey said: “We wanted a strapline that reflects the group today, that expresses our values and ticks all aspects of what we do. At LCRIG we are constantly making the case for local roads, so it makes sense that this is our strapline.

“It is important that we represent the views of our members and ensure that their voices are heard. We will be putting a focus on highlighting the value of local roads and will continue to work hard to make change happen. Through both our own initiatives, and by highlighting the work of others, we’ll be showing how the case for local roads is being made.”
