Local Transport Plan approved by North East Lincolnshire Council Cabinet for the 2023/24 financial year

Following a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday 8 March, Cabinet members at North East Lincolnshire Council have approved almost £4m from the Department for Transport (DfT) to deliver improvement schemes in the following areas; highway maintenance, public transport, traffic, road safety and active travel.

The funding will be used throughout the coming financial year which begins in April 2023 and finishes in March 2024.

The Local Transport Plan (LTP) will deliver more than 30 individual schemes across several programme areas. Specific initiatives for this year include:

  • Carriageway resurfacing and footpath maintenance on A1136 Cromwell Road
  • New or replacement electric vehicle (EV) charge points around St Peter’s Avenue and Central Promenade in Cleethorpes, and Cartergate and Abbey Walk in Grimsby, with sites to be confirmed after inspections
  • School safety enforcement cameras at Waltham Leas Primary Academy, Scartho Infants, and Stanford Junior and Infants school
  • Bus shelter replacements

The existing 2022/23 Local Transport Plan has delivered a number of schemes over the last year, including:

  • Carriageway resurfacing on A1136 Great Coates Road and A1243 Louth Road
  • Footpath resurfacing on Footpath 10
  • New raised kerbs at bus stops and bus shelter renewals
  • Upgrading existing weather station on A18 Barton Street

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “Every year, a Local Transport Plan is created to bring the biggest improvements to the highway and transport services, as well as maintaining them. The plan differs each year as we identify the schemes which our residents and businesses will benefit from the most. The schemes help to promote and improve active travel, sustainability, accessibility and road safety – all of which are important goals we wish to continually achieve and excel in.”
