M4 speed limit cut in west Wales

The speed limit on a section of the M4 near Swansea is being cut to 50 mph over fears the stretch is “potentially dangerous”.

Walesonline reports that Welsh Government ministers are introducing the “temporary” limit between junctions 45 and 46 because of the “likelihood of danger to the public or of serious damage to the road”.

The Welsh Government told the website the speed limit was being reduced due to the “structural condition of the safety barrier in the central reserve”, adding that an operational risk assessment was conducted which led to the action being taken.

The report adds that maximum duration of the order is for 18 months.
