Worcestershire County Council has pledged to make major additional investment to improve and maintain the county’s highways as part of their annual budget setting.

In the budget for 2022/23, which was approved on Thursday at February’s Full Council meeting, the County Council made the commitment to invest in further improvements to Worcestershire’s roads.

Highways will see an increase in investment, with an additional £6M million per year for the next three years on top of money already committed, totalling £36 million over the next three years to improve and maintain the county’s highways. This will enable improvements to continue on from last year and will produce another 145 miles of new road surfaces. 

Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Highways and Transport, said: “The record levels of investment in this year’s budget to improve and maintain our highways is at the highest level ever.

“This funding is not just for one year but for three, guaranteed. It will enable the county’s highways to stay in the top quartile and have some of the best roads in the whole country.

“Improvements to highways has been one of our residents’ top priorities for many years now and this budget showcases our commitment to keeping Worcestershire moving and ensuring our roads are safe for everyone to use.”

An additional £4 million per year, for the next three years has also been made available to improve and maintain the county’s footways.
