A permanent repair for the Menai Bridge crossbeam is being planned, following a temporary fix that allowed the bridge to reopen to vehicles under 7.5 tonnes on 24 October.
The permanent works are due to begin early this year, subject to weather conditions, says the North Wales Pioneer.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Member of the Welsh Parliament for Aberconwy, said:
“I appreciate the advanced notice of these works taking place on the bridge, and that temporary fixes were in place over the Christmas period, as this vital route on and off the island was important for people travelling to visit family and friends.
“While I am pleased that the works due to be undertaken will not require the bridge to be closed, I remain concerned about the impact this will have on traffic levels and congestion to and from Ynys Môn.
“I continue to call for work on a third Menai crossing to be undertaken to reduce the impact of repairs like this.”
These works will require some traffic management; however, no full road closures are planned.
