More details emerge of Rest and Be Thankful debris shelter plans

It’s reported engineers working on a debris shelter on the A83 through the Rest And Be Thankful are admitting it could take years to build.

The Helensburgh Advertiser reports traffic is set to be diverted on to the Old Military Road during construction.

The newspaper says a report to go before Argyll and Bute Council has given details of a briefing provided to a council policy lead by Transport Scotland last month.

Further upgrades to the Old Military Road, which runs alongside the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful, are reported as being progressed, to provide two-way traffic for “much of the length”.

The main road is frequently shut because of landslide fears and a debris shelter is the preferred option to fix the problem.
