National Express and Stagecoach plan merger

The UK’s biggest two coach operators are working to combine into one company.

In a statement, Stagecoach says it has been proud to have served communities across the UK for over 40 years and that combining with National Express will provide it with “new exciting opportunities”, enabling it to offer more services to more people and continue investing in improvements for customers.

National Express and Stagecoach’s Megabus (pictured) are the two major long-distance coach operators in the UK.

“As two of the UK’s iconic transport groups, Stagecoach and National Express have a strong track-record of running reliable, great value, high quality and safe services for customers. That will continue to be our priority as we move forward,” the statement reads. “The proposal is subject to a number of approvals, which we expect to be completed around the end of 2022.”

The merger would be subject to competition considerations, hence the time likely to take to complete.
