Traffic signals remain the premier way for local authorities to manage traffic on their networks and are increasingly used to support public transport and active travel policies – therefore the popular JCT Traffic Signals Symposium in Leeds remains the premier event for highways professionals and suppliers in the UK.
The learned programme for this September’s event has been published, detailing advancements in detection, adaptive signal control and bus and pedestrian priority.
This year’s keynote speaker is Steve Gooding, Director of the RAC Foundation, who will be using his many years of experience to give a realistic view of the future of transport, while there will be an update from the Department for Transport’s Head of Road Infrastructure Technology, Darren Capes (pictured).
Local authorities will also benefit from advice and expertise shared in a new feature, “Signaller’s Question Time”, a Question and Answer session with an expert panel – Emily Madsen of Staffordshire County Council alongside leading consultants Peter Routledge, Mark Pleydell and Chris Kennett.
“Every year it gets harder and harder to pick the papers to be delivered at the Symposium, because every year the quality of submissions gets better and better,” commented JCT Director John Nightingale, who runs the event. “This is our 30th Symposium and it’s fascinating to see that the way we use traffic signals has changed so much over these three decades, but their importance remains unchallenged as the best way to influence your network, as our outstanding programme proves.”
The event also features an extensive exhibition featuring (in alphabetical order) AGD Systems, ARTSM, Austar Lighting Shanghai, Coeval, CT Technology, FLIR Systems, ITS UK, Kapsch, NAL, NOW Wireless, PTV, RTEM, Sensys Networks, Simplifai Systems, Smartmicro UK, SRL, Starling Technologies, SWARCO, Telent Technology Services, Traffic Group Signals, TRL Software, TRP, VivaCity, Westcotec and Yunex Traffic. More exhibitors are expected to be announced before September’s event.
In order to support knowledge sharing among more people, the Symposium is offering 70% off tickets for up to three Early Careers Professionals from any organisation to attend the Symposium and Exhibition. That means they pay £120 each (full terms and conditions are on the JCT Symposium Website). For the first time, industry professionals can also join the flagship gala dinner without needing to be a delegate, for the price of just £100.
This year’s JCT Traffic Signals Symposium on 24 and 25 September features two days of academic presentations alongside the exhibition and the two evening networking events. It is preceded on 23 September by the MOVA Users Group and a combined booking can be made for both events.
