Shapps delays M25 junction upgrade

The Transport Secretary has decided to delay the upgrade of the notorious roundabout at junction 28 of the M25 which intersects with the A12.

The Transport Minister Andrew Stephenson has made a written statement on behalf of his boss Grant Shapps confirming that it has been necessary to extend the deadlines for decisions made under the Planning Act for further consideration of environmental matters.

The proposed development by National Highways would authorise the creation of a new two-lane loop road with hard shoulder, for traffic travelling from the M25 northbound carriageway onto the A12 eastbound carriageway towards Essex. It says the Secretary of State received the Examining Authority’s report on 16 September 2021 and the current deadline for a decision was 16 December 2021. The deadline is now extended to 16 May 2022.

There is also a delay on improvements on the A1 in Northumberland which involves widening the road between Morpeth and Ellingham.
