Somerset Highways staff worked flat out to minimise the impact of Storm Alex over the weekend.
The team dealt with more than half the average number of monthly cases – in just under three days. They were called out to a total of 52 incident across the county following the heavy rain and high winds, according to the council.
Normally, the monthly figure would be around 100 incidents. The busy few days saw the workers attend 25 reports of flooding and 16 fallen trees or branches.
The worst hit district in terms of incidents attended by Somerset Highways was Mendip, with 27 call outs. Next was Somerset West and Taunton with 14 requests, followed by Sedgemoor on six and South Somerset with five.
