TfL explain Gallows Corner works delays

Transport for London have issued an update explaining why roadworks at the busy Gallows Corner junction in Romford have taken more than two months longer than planned.

It says ground conditions around the water main at the A12/A127 junction caused delays to the works which were meant to be completed by 1 September. That means that work on the water main and a new flyover will take longer than anticipated.

It adds sections of the old flyover, some measuring up to 18.5m long, have been safely dismantled offsite and that it is progressing towards the next milestone, and “some major engineering works lie ahead”. This includes the complete construction of the new concrete flyover abutments, which will form the starting point for the new flyover.

The work involves the installation of a new flyover consisting of a steel structure, column and beams. As steelworks are completed, 91 concrete panels will be sequentially installed to form the new flyover deck.
