Transport becomes cabinet post in Scotland

Scotland’s First Minister has elevated transport minister Fiona Hyslop to a full cabinet member, as the previous cabinet minister for the sector, Mairi McAllan concentrates on Wellbeing Economy, Net Zero and Energy.

The reshuffle took place after the resignations of Elena Whithamin and Michael Matheson from the cabinet last week. Ms Whithamin stepped down for health reasons, while Mr Matheson ahead of a report into an £11,000 expenses claim connected to roaming costs for his government iPad while on holiday.

“I am elevating Transport to a Cabinet level post in its own right, given the importance of the issues within this portfolio,” explained First Minister Humza Yousaf, himself a former Transport Secretary in Scotland. “Fiona Hyslop is one of the most experienced and accomplished ministers in government.”
