The Scottish Government is looking at installing traffic signals on a single carriageway section of the A9 to try to improve road safety at a notorious junction.
The Herald Newspaper reports a reduced speed limit is also being considered on the road at Dunkeld, after a Perth and Kinross councillor wrote to the cabinet secretary for Transport demanding urgent action to improve road safety on this part of the A9.
The paper adds that, while plans for the dualling of the Pass of Birnam to Tay Crossing section include a roundabout, work is not expected to begin any time soon so short-term safety measures may be put in place and quotes a Transport Scotland spokesperson as saying: “Our Operating Company BEAR Scotland is currently investigating reducing the speed limit in this area and the feasibility of installing traffic signals at the junction. Existing traffic signage through Birnam and Dunkeld is also being reviewed.”
Other safety measures already introduced include solar powered illuminated road studs, new road markings and improved signage.
