Funding has been confirmed funding for National Highway’A57 link roads scheme in Greater Manchester, with construction set to begin in the next few weeks.
The A57 link roads will comprise a new dual carriageway linking the M67 with the A57 in Mottram Moor, Greater Manchester.
The scheme was granted a development consent order (DCO) in autumn 2022.
It was then delayed due to a legal challenge brought against it by the countryside charity CPRE, which claimed that the government had not properly assessed its cumulative carbon impact.
In February 2024, judges found that the scheme had been properly assessed by the government, so the case against it was closed.
Following the judgement, National Highways began preparatory work on site this summer. Work has included compound establishment, archaeological mitigation, environmental mitigation and utilities work, reports Ground Engineering.
