WJ wins contract with Via East Midlands to deliver road marking services across Notts

WJ Group, the UK’s leading road marking and highway safety business, has been awarded a new contract with Via East Midlands to deliver road marking services across Nottinghamshire.

Owned by Nottinghamshire County Council, Via East Midlands organises the delivery of a sustainable highways service for the region. In total, it maintains more than 4,400km of roads, 4,300km of footways and 3,200km of rights of way on behalf of the council. The partnership will see WJ deliver both the reactive maintenance work, as well as planned improvement schemes across Nottinghamshire County Council’s Road Network.

The appointment supports WJ’s continued commitment to deliver an exceptional service for their partners whilst evolving its road marking and studs provision. Earlier this year, the company launched Weatherline Ultra to offer even greater levels of performance and durability. The addition to the award-winning Weatherline product portfolio achieves over 500 mcd/m²/lx (> R5) and 75 mcd/m²/lx (RW3) retro reflectivity and has been designed to ensure visibility in any weather. This is made possible thanks to the product’s dotted profile, which raises the marking above surface water for enhanced wet night visibility.

As well as its award-winning products and services, a key reason for WJ’s successful tender was its ongoing environmental strategy. WJ is on an active path to be net-zero operationally by 2032. Further to these aims, the company has reformulated its thermoplastic products to reduce embedded carbon, confirmed through its verified carbon footprint calculator.

Clare Taylor (MCIPS), Supply Chain Manager at Via East Midlands, said: “Ensuring the strategic road network across Nottinghamshire is well maintained is crucial for the safety of road users. Working with WJ will not only enable us to deliver high quality improvement schemes, but it will also be delivered in a sustainable and carbon-efficient manner.”

Loren Jackson, General Manager at WJ, said: “This partnership is further evidence that our creative thinking – coupled with our environmental commitments – sets us apart as leaders in road marking and as highways safety experts. We look forward to a fruitful partnership that commits to creating safe, sustainable journeys for road users across Nottinghamshire.”
