A major focus during construction of the North Hykeham Relief will be efficiency and keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.
Cllr David East, executive member for highways, said:
“We have taken a highly considered approach to the construction of the North Hykeham Relief Road, ensuring that safety and efficiency are at the heart of everything we do.
“Extensive planning has gone into ensuring the successful delivery of the North Hykeham Relief Road, with the project team developing a comprehensive construction strategy focused on efficiency, safety, and minimising disruption to local communities.
“Construction of the new relief road will be carried out in carefully managed phases, allowing works to progress smoothly while maintaining access and reducing impacts on surrounding infrastructure.
“By using modern construction techniques, prefabrication, and a dedicated haul road, we are able to minimise disruption to local communities while delivering a high-quality piece of infrastructure.”
Sam Edwards, head of highways infrastructure, added:
“A major feature of the relief road’s construction strategy is the creation of an 8km purpose-built haul road that will run from the A46 to the A15.
“This dedicated route will significantly reduce construction traffic on local roads, improve safety, and enable efficient movement of materials, plant, and machinery across the site.
“In fact, we’re expecting over 150,000 vehicle movements to be removed from the local road network thanks to the haul road.
“We’re also planning to re-use over a million tonnes of excavated material for the project. For example, using the material dug out near Station Road for the new bridge for the embankment up to the River Witham.
“This approach will significantly reduce waste and minimise the need for additional vehicle movements.”
