Moto Hospitality announces £500m investment in enhanced facilities for UK motorists

Moto Hospitality, the UK’s largest motorway service area operator, has announced plans to invest more than half a billion pounds across its nationwide estate, following the landmark agreement of new 75+ year lease extensions, with the Department for Transport and National Highways, at 10 Moto sites.

The long-term extensions enable Moto to continue its wide-ranging programme of site redevelopments and EV infrastructure upgrades designed to meet changing travel demands and to provide support for the Government’s Net Zero ambitions for UK transportation.

Founded in 2001, Moto serves over 130m customers each year, making it the UK’s largest motorway services operator, with its services open 24/7 for commuters, families, coach and freight drivers.

Moto plans to significantly increase the number of EV charging hubs across its sites having already launched more than 1,000 ultra rapid charging bays in the past 5 years. Moto now has a clear ambition to quadruple the number of EV charging bays at its sites over the coming years. Moto also has a roadmap to 15 eHGV superhub sites with up to 100 bays, providing critical infrastructure that will unlock electric freight growth for the UK economy.

The company is also exploring new energy solutions, including on-site renewable generation and smart energy management systems, as part of a broader ambition to continue integrating cleaner, more resilient power into its operations and support the UK’s transition to zero-emission transport.
