An A-road bypass in Kent is set for a 40mph speed limit to be added for safety reasons. Kent County Council (KCC) is asking the community for feedback on the traffic proposals for around half a mile of the A224 in the Sevenoaks district, says Kent Live.

The 24-day public consultation for the Orpington Bypass in Badgers Mount ends at noon on Monday 8 June.

Badgers Mount is a picturesque, small village of only around 710 people, some 3.5 miles from Orpington. The 40mph would replace a 50mph limit

A spokesperson for KCC said the reason behind the proposal was to keep pedestrians or anyone else safe when they’re using the road or any other road; to make it easier to use the route, whether for pedestrians or other road users; and to improve the area through which the road runs, by “preserving or improving the amenities”.

Any responses will then be analysed and considered, said KCC, which will then review the scheme and decide whether to “make the order permanent, amend or abandon it”.

The 40mph speed limit would be introduced on the bypass from its junction with Badgers Mount roundabout for a distance of 940m in a northerly direction.
