Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has issued a video talking about how 5,000 highway defects have been fixed in Essex since the local elections in May.

Speaking ahead of the Clacton by-election, the video features Reform Councillor Mark Webster, who’s Essex cabinet member for highways, talking about increased spending on roads in the county.

“Since we got elected, we’ve done over 5,000 pothole defects since we took administration in the eight weeks up to 10th July,” Mr Webster says. “We’ve established a £7.5 million pothole emergency. Five and a half million was originally from the highways budget and have put in £2 million from the capital reserves.”

The caption with the video on X says that this is a 30% increase on the same period last year.
