AppyWay, the UK=based kerbside and traffic data company, has now mapped more than 45,000km of kerbside, creating a legal-grade digital twin of the rules of the road across the UK. That is more than the circumference of the Earth, which measures 40,075.017 km to be precise.
The figure makes AppyWay’s dataset one of the largest standardised collections of kerbside restriction data in the world. It covers parking, loading and waiting restrictions across a growing list of local authorities, all captured in a single consistent format.
AppyWay’s unique ability to map granular restrictions at scale is timely as the UK Department for Transport is making it mandatory for English local authorities to publish machine-readable maps by the end of 2026. The mandate supports the Automated Vehicles Act, which will enable kerbside compliance for RobotTaxis through machine-readable regulation maps, called Digital Traffic Orders (DTRO).
Councils that get ahead of the deadline now will avoid a rush later.

AppyWay continues to keep adding to the total kilometres mapped, as forward- thinking councils embrace digitisation and use software to drive efficiencies. In the coming months, AppyWay will be adding around 5,000km of network in one go after recently winning a contract to digitally map England’s largest unitary authority.
