Amey Consulting appoints Laurence Green as Head of Major Bridges and Structures

Amey Consulting, one of the UK’s leading engineering consultancies, has today announced Laurence Green as its new Head of Major Bridges & Structures for its Highways & Property business.

A Chartered Civil Engineer with 20 years of experience and a bridge specialist, Laurence will be responsible for leading Amey Consulting’s design and asset management across some of the UK’s most iconic civil engineering structures and bridges.

Mr Green’s distinguished career has focused on the design and remediation, including electrochemical remediation, on almost all types of highway and railway bridge structures and he has previously held senior roles at Aecom and Kier.

He was the original developer of the international leading bridge management software, AMX (formerly BMX), which now manages 750,000 structures worldwide. He is a Fellow, reviewer and expert panel member with the Institution of Civil Engineers and holds a Doctorate in the repair of concrete bridges.

Mr Green will bring his expertise across Amey Consulting’s diverse portfolio including work on the upgrade of the A66, National Highway’s Scheme Delivery Framework, as well as building on the successful win of National Highway’s 15-year Specialist Bridge Inspection and Maintenance contract (SBIM) for Avonmouth and Severn Bridges. Key to Laurence’s focus will be further combining Amey Consulting’s expertise in traditional design and asset management with its specialist data and analytics platforms – Pearl and Mercury, to offer clients a world leading ‘smart’ structural health monitoring system.

Speaking on the announcement, Alex Gilbert, Managing Director, Amey Consulting said: “I am delighted to welcome Laurence to Amey Consulting. His proven track record of managing and delivering major transport infrastructure projects, combined with his rich technical capability, makes him the ideal candidate to join our business as we continue to offer our clients world leading consultancy and design services.

Laurence joins Amey Consulting at an incredibly exciting time. We are currently delivering some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the UK including National Highway’s Scheme Delivery Framework, the upgrade of the A66 and utilising our data science capability on the Avonmouth and Severn Bridges. I look forward to Laurence bringing his expertise and experience to Amey Consulting, the benefits of which will be felt in communities across the UK”

Mr Green added: “I am happy to be joining Amey Consulting. The combined benefit of offering clients traditional bridge engineering and asset management, alongside Amey Consulting’s own innovative data science platforms Pearl and Mercury is something that is very exciting to be a part of. I look forward to expanding this offering and providing the best possible service to infrastructure owners across the UK.

I am passionate about the impact that well designed and managed structures can have on people’s lives. Not only the economic benefit of connecting communities and keeping people moving but on the cultural fabric of the country. Many bridges have an aesthetic beauty that makes them iconic features of a region and I am proud to work maintaining them for generations to come.”
