Californian driverless tests total 2.8 million miles

The number of miles driven by autonomous cars in California totalled 2.8 million, up three quarters of a million on the year before.

Insurance Journal has seen figures from the Californian Department of Motor Vehicles, which regulates testing in the state. It says six new permits for testing with a driver were issued in 2019, and it permitted 427 new safety drivers.

This coincides with America’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration saying it’ll make sweeping changes to safety requirements to speed up testing without human controls.
