Causeway leads digital transformation with integrated traffic order solution for highway authorities

As the Department for Transport (DfT) moves ahead with one of the most significant regulatory shifts in decades, Causeway Technologies has unveiled an integrated digital traffic regulation order (D-TRO) solution to help local authorities meet upcoming requirements with speed and confidence.

Bringing together two of the sector’s most trusted tools, Causeway ParkMap and Causeway one.network, the solution enables local authorities to create, manage, and share TROs in line with the new DfT-mandated digital standard, while maintaining the specialist capabilities their teams rely on.

“This isn’t just about digitising traffic orders, it’s about doing it right,” said Nick Smee, Senior Vice President, Infrastructure at Causeway. “Our integrated approach means that teams managing permanent TROs continue to benefit from the deep functionality of Causeway ParkMap. Meanwhile, street works and traffic management teams handling high volumes of temporary orders get the operational visibility and efficiency only Causeway one.network can deliver.”

The D-TRO mandate, introduced under the Automated Vehicles Act 2024, requires all traffic regulation orders to be published in a standardised digital format. Causeway’s integrated offer ensures local authorities can meet these demands now and start unlocking benefits, without compromising the tools and workflows they depend on.

With the D-TRO initiative soon to begin public beta, the clock is ticking for authorities to move away from paper-based, inconsistent TRO processes. Causeway’s integrated approach aims to give councils a clear, low-risk path forward, backed by tools they already trust.

This latest move is part of a broader strategy to connect Causeway’s highways-focused offerings, including traffic management, roadworks coordination, and asset planning, into a flexible platform tailored for the complexity of modern road networks.

“With over 80% of UK highway authorities already working with us, Causeway is uniquely positioned to spot emerging needs fast and iterate solutions quickly. That means unlocking value not just for council teams, but for the communities they serve and the hundreds of private sector organisations that rely on Causeway to plan and coordinate their operations,” said Paul Devlin, CEO of Causeway Technologies.

“This isn’t just about ticking a compliance box, it’s about changing how our road networks are managed for good. We’re helping councils prepare not just for today’s demands, but for the future, with connected tools, clear data, and shared visibility across teams to enable more intelligent, resilient highways management and ultimately, safer roads for everyone.”
