This year’s road maintenance programme, which is funded by the Department for Transport (DfT) Road Resurfacing Fund, has come to an end in West Sussex with the final scheme of works being completed in Yapton.
The DfT Road Resurfacing Fund granted a total of £4.322 million to West Sussex County Council for the 2023-2025 financial years. The government grant is provided to improve local highways maintenance, particularly for the resurfacing of carriageways, cycleways and footways with the aim of preventing potholes and other road defects from occurring.
Since the start of April, the DfT funding has supported 32 schemes in 23 locations around the county enabling us to resurface an additional 31.51km as part of our Highways, Transport and Planning delivery programme.
West Sussex County Council cabinet member for Highways and Transport, Councillor Joy Dennis said: “This generous grant from the DfT Road Resurfacing Fund has made it possible for the Council to carry out essential road maintenance projects around the county.
“Projects as diverse as repairing the road outside the library in Crawley, resurfacing roads in Burgess Hill, and tarmacking areas in the Horsham Forest neighbourhood have been greatly welcomed by local residents. The works funded by the DfT will improve the journeys of drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.”
