Devon: Work set to start on phase two of the Ogwell Walking and Cycling Link

Construction work on phase two of the Ogwell Walking and Cycling Link project in Devon will begin this week, marking the next stage in the delivery of a key active travel route for Newton Abbot and the surrounding area.

This phase will deliver a new 90‑metre shared‑use path. The route will extend from Bakers Park, pass through the existing hedgerow, cross the driveway to Bradley Manor, and connect through to Beverley Way, further strengthening safe and sustainable travel links.

Phase one, completed in 2024, delivered a new section of pathway alongside the tennis courts, road improvements at Steppes Meadow, and enhanced access at Bakers Park car park. This initial phase marked the first step in creating a safe and convenient alternative to Totnes Road, giving residents and visitors greater confidence to walk or cycle between the town centre and Ogwell.

Jointly delivered by us and Teignbridge District Council (TDC), the work for phase two will involve construction of a new shared-use path, along with associated drainage, boundary treatments, and landscaping where required.

Councillor Jacqi Hodgson, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Biodiversity, said:

“We’re pleased to be working with Teignbridge District Council on this project and it’s really good news that work is starting on this key active travel route. Once it’s completed this new shared path will give people a dedicated safe route to walk or cycle on short local trips, which is great for improving health and the local environment.”
