The Transport Technology Forum has secured a keynote speech from Professor Phil Blythe as part of its closing session at this year’s online conference.

The Department for Transport’s Chief Scientific Adviser, who sits on the Government’s SAGE Committee, is expected to talk about his reaction to the sector’s response to the Covid-19 crisis, particularly because he challenged the industry during his speech at last year’s conference in Bristol (pictured).

Prof Blythe will also give his thoughts at 1.45pm on Friday afternoon about what transport might look like in a post-Covid world during a session which will suggest a series a series of ‘provocations’ that will be debated by a panel of experts. The session will be hosted by TTF Chair Steve Gooding, of the RAC Foundation, with panellists including Alistair Hunter, Arup’s Highways Business Leader.

During Friday’s morning session, Andy Graham of White Willow Consulting will chair a session on The New Shape of Traffic, examining the TTF’s data analysis over the last year which suggests Covid-19 has not just changed the volume of traffic in town and cities, but the timings of peaks and trip length.  Speakers from Arup, local authorities, data providers and analysts will discuss what this means for short-term planning and the future.
