Econ Engineering launches all electric trailer and new distributor

Gritter and winter maintenance vehicle manufacturer Econ Engineering has launched two new innovations that will make gritting Britain’s roads more efficient and better for the environment.

The Econ Electric Trailer Spreader is the latest addition to Econ’s Zero Emissions Range, which aims to help operators reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining peak gritting performance.

It is the latest electric offering to be introduced by Econ, following the launch of its groundbreaking E-QCB (Electric – Quick Body Change) in 2023, an industry first, fully electric vehicle that can switch between
a gritter, tipper and hotbox body in minutes.

The independently powered, fully electric trailer has a 1.5sqm hopper and up to 3,000kg gross mass, providing reliable performance for both urban and rural settings. Its compact and agile size makes it ideal for
narrow streets and tight spaces, while its low noise emissions make it a great solution for nighttime spreading in urban areas. It also has longevity built in, being able to operate for eight hours on one charge.

The Electric Trailer Spreader is equipped with Econ’s new patented Central Rotating Chute (CRC) Distributor, the latest modification to be introduced to its market leading gritters.

Working in conjunction with the latest generation of SPARGO Control Systems, the new distributor provides a low, smooth throw of salt and a more accurate spreading pattern to reduce salt waste and ensure optimal
road safety.  Its larger disk diameter with optimised flight design produces a cleaner salt stream, while high-speed motors allow salt to cover a larger area, providing exceptional accuracy and efficiency.

The CRC Distributor is available as an option on all Econ’s gritter vehicles, providing operators with better control, flow and delivery of their salt.

Both innovations will be available to view at Econ’s stands D46, E32 and NP3 at Cold Comfort 2025 (21-22 May),.
