Major resurfacing and joint replacement works on the A898 Erskine Bridge in Glasgow have been extended by at least 24 hours. The £100,000 project, carried out by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, was supposed to see the northbound section of the bridge closed for the weekend, says The Clydebank Post, however, due to “forecast heavy rain”, the works have now been extended, causing further diversions for drivers.
The northbound carriageway of the bridge will now be shut until 6am tomorrow, 12 August 12, while the southbound carriageway will have a single lane open.
A spokesperson for Amey said:
“Please be advised that due to forecast heavy rain, the closure on the northbound A898 Erskine Bridge will remain in place until 6am until Tuesday 12th August. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and road users are advised to plan their journey times, accordingly, seek alternative routes or follow the standard, agreed diversions outlined below, while the works are taking place.
“Emergency service access has been agreed and will be maintained in coordination with relevant parties.”
The works are intended to improve the condition of the bridge joints and road surface, increasing reliability and safety, and reducing the likelihood of more extensive or disruptive future repairs.
