Highways News has launched a new Industry Events service designed to provide a one-stop diary of events across the highways and transport technology sectors, and help organisers avoid unnecessary clashes when planning their own activities.
The new Industry Events page brings together relevant conferences, exhibitions, webinars and other industry activities in a single calendar, allowing people to see what is happening across the sector and plan their diaries accordingly.
The service, supported by Andy Graham of White Willow Consulting, is intended to grow into a comprehensive industry resource, with event organisers encouraged to submit details of their forthcoming activities for inclusion.
The diary has two purposes. As well as helping readers discover events they may wish to attend, it gives organisations planning conferences, webinars, workshops and other activities a simple way of checking what is already scheduled before choosing a date.
“Anyone working in highways and transport technology knows just how busy the industry calendar has become,” said Highways News Managing Editor Paul Hutton. “There are so many excellent events taking place, but sometimes two or three things which would appeal to exactly the same people end up happening at the same time.
“We thought it would be useful to have one place where people can quickly see what is coming up. Hopefully it will help people decide which events they want to attend, while also giving organisers an easy way of checking the diary before setting a date. If it helps prevent even a few unnecessary clashes, it will have done something useful for the industry.”
“Although people in our industry have skills that continue to amaze me, bring in two places at the same time stretches even the best of us, so I am really keen to avoid the ‘do I go to invite A or invite B – what will I miss out’ feeling,” explained Andy Graham. “Also, having organised events myself to find a lower-than-expected attendance, due to an unexpected event popping up way after we had organised ours. I’d like to think this will be of use to the core folk who do tend to check dates, but also more for people organising events we want to engage with, say in parking, automotive, digital twins and so on. These people ask me why so few quality folk attended their events, unaware they had picked a date where there was another big event in the diary for a long time.”
The calendar will continue to expand over time, including past events, webinars and selected international events relevant to its readers. Event organisers can submit new listings and request amendments to existing information through the page.
“We want organisations across the sector to contribute to the service by sending details of their events,” Paul Hutton concluded. “This will help make the diary as comprehensive and useful as possible.”The Industry Events diary can be viewed at the Highways News website.
