Leicestershire County Council (LCC) is set to begin its programme of works to improve pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities at locations along the A6 corridor in Oadby, centred on The Parade and the Brabazon Road junctions with the A6.
The A6 through Oadby is a busy road that many people need to cross on foot or by bike to reach the town centre, places of worship, shops, and bus stops. We have identified locations where improvements will make the biggest difference to safety.
Works are scheduled to start on 3 August 2026 and include:
- New and upgraded signal-controlled pedestrian and cycle crossings
- Improved crossing facilities at Regent Street, and across Harborough Road / Leicester Road
- Raised crossings that bring the road up to pavement level on Lyndhurst Road, Stoughton Road, and Victoria Court at their junctions with the A6
- A raised crossing on the north western section of Oadby Court at its junction with Brabazon Road
- Renewal of existing vehicle traffic signals equipment
- Resurfacing of the road/carriageway between the Brabazon Road and New Street junctions on the A6
There are no proposed changes to permitted vehicle turning movements, or to the speed limit.
The council was successful in a bid to Active Travel England who awarded nearly £900,000 in the scheme. LCC are providing a further £1 million from established active travel budgets. The budget for the scheme is £1.9 million.
