West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) has launched a consultation on a series of Active Travel improvements designed to make walking, wheeling and cycling safer and easier. Proposals cover Manor Road and Waynflete Avenue, Northampton Road and High Street, Brackley, while residents are also being asked for their views on potential future improvements along Halse Road, says the Northampton Chronicle.

Among the measures being considered are new and enhanced crossing points, wider footpaths and accessibility improvements including dropped kerbs and tactile paving.

Plans also include a shared footpath and cycleway connecting Brackley town centre with the area around the town’s Sainsbury’s. One-way arrangements are proposed for Manor Road and Waynflete Avenue, which the council says could create additional space for people walking and wheeling.

WNC says the overall scheme is intended to make journeys to school safer, improve accessibility and provide better connections between residential areas, schools, facilities and the town centre.

Councillor Richard Butler, WNC’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“We want to make it easier and safer for people to travel around Brackley without hopping behind the wheel of a car. This is particularly for short, everyday journeys such as travelling to school, work, local services and the town centre.

“Brackley continues to grow, and it’s important that the town’s transport network provides safe and attractive travel options for everyone.”
