Critical digital infrastructure technology and services supplier Telent, part of M Group, has secured a new contract with Herefordshire Council to continue maintaining the county’s traffic signal network.
The contract covers 97 traffic signal sites across Herefordshire, where currently more than 80% of the county’s traffic signal estate is equipped with Telent signal controllers, while around 85% of sites are connected to Telent’s Optima Hub remote monitoring platform.
Over the past two years, the network has recorded an average of just two signal faults per week, demonstrating consistently strong network performance. Optima Hub provides real-time visibility of signal assets across the network, helping engineers respond quickly when issues arise and supporting a more proactive approach to maintenance.
For a predominantly rural county such as Herefordshire, remote monitoring plays an important role in maintaining network performance across a geographically dispersed area. By providing greater visibility
of asset performance, it helps maintenance teams manage the network more effectively and maintain reliable operations.
The agreement builds on Telent’s long-standing support for Herefordshire’s traffic signal network, a relationship that spans more than 25 years and has continued through different delivery models over
that period. This experience has given Telent a detailed understanding of the network and its operational requirements.
The contract further strengthens Telent’s presence across the West Midlands and surrounding region, where the company supports local authorities with traffic technology, maintenance and monitoring services.
This contract complements M Group’s wider term maintenance activities across Herefordshire, where the group delivers highway and infrastructure maintenance services, combining on-the-ground network
upkeep with Telent’s specialist traffic technology expertise to provide a more integrated and efficient service across the county.
