Nottingham City Council to expand school streets programme

Safety improvements on a number of Nottingham roads near schools will become permanent, following a trial and public consultation.

The School Streets are just one of the many Active Travel Schemes by Nottingham City Council, looking to encourage sustainable travel.

In a bid to reduce traffic levels, particularly at pick up and drop off times, trials were carried out at 15 school areas in Nottingham with feedback being gathered on the outcomes.

Changes include altering entry points to roads near schools, making some permanently inaccessible by cars, reports the Nottinghamshire Post.

The council confirmed it is also reviewing the signage outside schools to ensure residents and businesses know they can still access their homes and properties.
