Thousands of road signs have been cleaned by Telford & Wrekin Council in Shropshire as part of an ongoing council programme designed at improving local highways and transport infrastructure. Thousands of road signs across Telford & Wrekin have been cleaned by the council ahead of winter, reports the Shropshire Star.
The Council has said it has cleaned 7,000 road signs across 1,000 roads in the authority in recent weeks and months. The work is being carried out as part of the council’s ongoing Find It and Fix It programme.
Signs were cleaned to make them more visible for drivers as the nights begin to draw in and the winter months approach.
Work recently finished on signs in Haygate & Park and Ketley, and teams are currently undertaking work in Arleston College.
Councillor Nathan England, cabinet member for safer streets and better housing, said:
“Our Find and Fix It programme is all about taking a proactive approach to maintaining our Borough and tackling issues that matter to residents.
“Working alongside our partners at Balfour Beatty, we’re continually identifying areas that need attention and making improvements that help keep our communities safe, clean and accessible.”
“While road sign cleaning may seem like a small task, it makes a real difference, particularly as we head into the winter months when visibility can be reduced by darker mornings, evenings and adverse weather conditions.
“We’re committed to keeping Telford and Wrekin moving and would encourage residents to continue reporting issues they spot so that we can investigate and take action where needed.”
The road signage cleaning is part of the council’s £91 million investment over four years into highways and transport infrastructure across the authority.
