SRL launches multipurpose Solihull facility

SRL Traffic Systems is kicking off 2025 with the launch of its largest facility to date. The multi-purpose Solihull hub will enable the company to provide its customers with an increasingly efficient service, as well as hosting its new REMOS remotely operated signal operation.

SRL is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of mobile ITS solutions to the traffic management, construction, utilities and events sectors. Standing at almost 30,000 sq ft, the new centre will open at the beginning of February 2025.

This centrally located facility is situated on Birmingham Business Park within easy access of the M42 motorway, Birmingham Airport and the NEC.

Solihull will be the home of REMOS, one of the first scalable remotely operated temporary signal solutions. Announced in October following a series of successful trials, REMOS will initially be available for projects located within a 1.5-hour radius of the new facility, before being rolled out nationally.

The new signal solution incorporates a portable traffic signal head with built-in CCTV cameras and remote traffic management control boxes (RTMC) that live-stream data to the REMOS Control Centre within the new building to facilitate remote management.

Designed to allow traffic management organisations to minimise the number of personnel stationed on site in live traffic lanes, REMOS promotes road worker safety, minimises labour costs and reduces the level of carbon emissions associated with operative transport. One person may manage several sites, efficiently monitoring traffic and making interventions to prevent and optimise traffic flows.

Also located at the depot will be SRL’s first national training centre. The facility will promote the ongoing development of the company’s staff as they work to deliver mobile ITS solutions to customers throughout the UK and Ireland.

In addition to traffic and pedestrian signals and the multi-directional signal solution Urban64, SRL’s comprehensive ITS portfolio comprises variable message signs (VMS), CCTV, work-zone protection barriers, ANPR and the Haul Route PLUS crossing solution. It is the UK and Ireland’s only ITS manufacturer available to customers on site 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Mark Eburne, SRL’s chief executive officer, said: “The new Solihull centre marks an exciting start to
2025 for SRL and will enable us to provide our customers with increasingly efficient service and
accessible training, as well as hosting the new REMOS operation.”
