Suffolk’s fixed speed cameras caught more than 1,300 motorists speeding in September, with one stretch of the A12 accounting for more than a third of all offences.

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, speeding figures released by Suffolk Constabulary show 1,301 drivers were detected by the county’s network of fixed speed cameras during the last month.

The busiest site was the A12 average-speed system between East Bergholt and Stratford St Mary, where 458 motorists heading towards East Bergholt were caught speeding and 181 more were caught in the opposite direction. Together, the two cameras accounted for 639 speeding offences, almost half of the county total.

At the other end of the scale, just six motorists were caught by the A134 average-speed camera travelling towards Barnham between Barnham and Ingham, making it Suffolk’s least  active fixed camera site in September.

The second-highest number of offences was recorded on the B1122 between Yoxford and Theberton, where 136 drivers travelling towards Theberton and 96 heading towards Yoxford were caught speeding.

Elsewhere, 92 motorists were detected travelling towards Theberton and 78 towards Leiston on the B1122 between Leiston and Theberton.

The fixed camera at Coddenham on the A140 recorded 57 offences in September.

On the A12 at Martlesham, a camera capable of detecting both speeding and red-light offences recorded 68 offences northbound and 19 southbound.

The A14 Orwell Bridge average-speed cameras caught 42 motorists speeding westbound and 17 eastbound.
