SWARCO’s MD promising joined-up solutions

The new Managing Director of SWARCO in the UK is committing to working with local authorities to help them adapt to changing travel patterns post Covid, and delivering a joined up solution from his company’s different business units.

In his first interview since taking over last month, John Pickworth has told Highways News’s new weekly podcast Highways Voices that he wants to make sure customers get the best from SWARCO Traffic’s signs and signals business, the company’s eVolt charging products and its Skidata parking management solutions as one solution.

“As you take the scenario coming out to COVID, when people movement is going to be crucial, then you can see straight away opportunities around that the data that’s going to be delivered from those,” he explains.  “If you can deliver those three solutions and on a Greenfield site or a new site that’s that needs to be managed. The impact on potential footfall on how you manage people and the experience people have entering towns, cities and so on could be vastly improved. Those sorts of things as loads of those would seem really obvious, but the very nature of how the business has come together, they’re not all necessarily the focus. So what I’ve got to do is make sure I’m sitting a bit above that, thinking about how we join it together.”

In the podcast interview which will be published on Wednesday 3 February, Pickworth tells Adrian Tatum and Paul Hutton of Highways News about his commitment to promote SWARCO’s new modular urban traffic management system MyCity to deliver traffic management and road safety solutions to authorities.

“It’s a natural upgrade path to what we already provide, and the solutions we provide,” he says. “The challenge we have is twofold, really, first of all, being able to clearly articulate why we’d want to go down that route, and the benefits over some of the other solutions that are out there. Being sure that when we deliver that to customers, it works to the same quality standards that we deliver against our current infrastructure.”

Highways Voices is a new weekly podcast which will feature interviews and features with leading figures across the highways and transport technology industries.  With a new edition uploaded every Wednesday, it will be available on a range of podcast platforms and directly from the Highways News website.
