Shropshire Council is increasing the number of Multihog road planer teams working across the county to three during September as it continues its programme of pothole and road defect repairs.

The council says an additional third Multihog and crew will join the two existing teams, with work scheduled at a series of locations across Shropshire during the month.

The Multevo Multihog planes off damaged road surface to create a squared-off area which can then be filled by a following repair gang. The council says the process is quicker than manually saw-cutting and breaking out defective road material, enabling potholes and other defects to be tackled more quickly and effectively.

Each Multihog can treat up to 9,000 square metres of road each month. The council says the approach also reduces the likelihood of potholes forming in the short-to-medium term and reduces the need for road closures.

The first Multihog is scheduled to work on Station Road in Shrewsbury, the A442 between Radmoor crossroads and the A53 Espley roundabout, Roman Road in Wistanstow and a route between the A49 junction at Bayston Hill and Condover Church Street junction.

A second machine will carry out work on sections of the B4371 around Presthope and Easthope, as well as roads around Stanwardine Lane and Blackbow Hill at Ruyton XI Towns.

The newly-added third Multihog is scheduled to work on the route between Chain Lane junction and the start of Trefonen Road in Oswestry on 7 September, between Deepdale Cottages junction on the B4176 and The Walls Hilton in Bridgnorth on 9 September, and between the B5069 and B5070 junctions on St Martins Road on 14 September.

Work will be carried out on weekdays, generally between 9.30am and 4pm, although shorter working hours will apply at some locations.
