Delegates to this year’s Transport Technology Forum Autumn Update will be given an expert guide on how to write a compelling paper for inclusion in next year’s major Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress in Birmingham.
With around 15,000 transport technology professionals expected to attend the 2027 Congress from around the world, competition is likely to be fierce among those wishing to present a paper and share their knowledge, expertise and ideas with this global audience.
World Congress Chief Rapporteur Professor Eric Sampson will lead a presentation at the Autumn Update on 17 November explaining what assessors are looking for. This will include tips on whether you should put forward a research or technical paper, its format, writing style and how to avoid commercialism. He’ll also run through how to reference your document.
“I’ve attended Congresses for many years and it’s a unique opportunity not just to share your work with a global audience but to learn first hand what your peer groups are planning and doing,” Professor Sampson explained. “I urge junior and senior authors to respond to the Call for proposals.”
The TRL-sponsored TTF event at the IET in central Birmingham allows local authorities and the supply chain to spend the day in the same room as central government to share ideas and solutions and discuss key issues around roads technology investment. Last year, more than 150 people attended, including senior members of the Department for Transport. A full agenda will be available in due course, but with the Autumn Update proving to be an extremely popular one-day event, those interested in taking part are encouraged to book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

The TTF Autumn Update takes place on Tuesday 17 November at the IET, Austin Court, Birmingham. Local authority delegate places, including catering and refreshments, are fully funded thanks to the support of the private sector. Some exhibition stands remain available.
The ITS World Congress takes place from 25–29 October 2027 at Birmingham’s NEC. It is organised by ERTICO – ITS Europe and hosted by Transport for West Midlands, with support from the Department for Transport.
