TTF reports traffic fell 25% on first day of English Lockdown 2

The latest Covid-19 Local Authority traffic and transport digest from the Transport Technology Forum suggest there was an immediate drop in traffic on local roads when Lockdown 2 started on 5 November.

Its weekly analysis of data covering more than a hundred local authority boroughs and districts suggests that people got their travel in between the restrictions being announced and coming into force, given that Monday-to-Wednesday levels were almost at February’s pre-crisis levels.

Car levels actually peaked at 50% above baseline levels on Wednesday 4 November before falling by a quarter the next day.

The TTF is currently gathering and analysing last week’s traffic to see what effect the first full week of stricter rules has had on transport in England’s districts and boroughs.

The report’s collation and lessons that can be learned will be discussed in a Fireside Chat with the TTF on Thursday 19 November at 4pm. Register here.
