Women in Bus and Coach launches Welsh regional group,

Women in Bus and Coach (WiBC) has expanded its national network with the launch of its new Welsh regional group, marking a significant step in strengthening support, representation and opportunities for women across the bus, coach and community transport sector in Wales.

The launch event took place on 8th May at the Transport for Wales offices in Pontypridd, bringing together industry professionals and stakeholders from across the region.

Madeleine Goodson, Senior Project Manager at Transport for Wales has been appointed as Chair of the Welsh regional group, alongside Michelle Clarke, Deputy Director for Wales at the Community Transport Association, who has been appointed as Deputy Chair. Madeleine and Michelle will lead efforts to build a strong, inclusive network that supports women at all stages of their careers.

Speaking about her appointment, Madeleine said:

“I’m incredibly proud to take on the role of Chair for Women in Bus and Coach in Wales at such an exciting time. This new regional group is about creating meaningful connections, championing talent and ensuring women across Wales feel supported and empowered within our industry. I’m looking forward to working with colleagues across the sector to build a vibrant and impactful community.”

As part of the launch event, alongside Madeleine and Michelle, guests heard from a range of industry leaders and experts, including Laura Hadzik, Partner and Head of Commercial Road Transport at JMW Solicitors and Chair of Women in Bus and Coach, Laurence Jenkins, Finance Director at Reading Buses and Director of Women in Bus, Gemma Lelliott, Director for Wales at the Community Transport Association and Coach and Christina Christie, Community Transport Development Officer at Swansea Council for Voluntary Service (SCVS).

Women in Bus and Coach Chair Laura Hadzik welcomed the launch, highlighting the importance of regional engagement:

“The launch of our Welsh regional group is a fantastic milestone for Women in Bus and Coach. Expanding our presence ensures we can better support women across all parts of the UK, reflecting the unique opportunities and challenges within each region. Madeleine’s leadership will be instrumental in driving this forward, and I’m excited to see the positive impact this group will have.”

The Welsh regional group will focus on networking, mentoring, professional development and advocacy, helping to create a more diverse and inclusive bus, coach and community transport sector across Wales
