Neil Sampson, CEO of Torquay Group, has marked 100 days in the role, reflecting on the pace of change across SG, MVIS and P&D Specialist Services as the group moves into its next phase of development.
Neil took on the role after two decades leading SG, formerly Solar Gates, and more recently P&D Specialist Services, bringing an intimate knowledge of the group’s businesses to the wider CEO position.
Asked whether 100 days was a meaningful marker or simply convention, Neil said he’d settled on it being a fair one.
“Long enough to have made real decisions, short enough to still remember what ‘before’ looked like,” he said. “It felt worth taking stock properly rather than just marking the date.”
Neil said the period had been about being deliberate in how the group’s businesses work together, building the structures needed to support the next stage of growth across various sectors.
“Change without direction is just noise,” he said. “What we’ve been doing has been change with a plan, and that plan was there from day one.”
He was keen to credit the wider teams across the group for how that change has been carried through.
“None of this happens without the people who showed up and kept delivering for customers while we worked on what sits underneath. That kind of commitment, staying focused on customers while everything else is changing around you, is rare. I’m aware of it every day.”
Looking ahead, Neil said the main focus remains on bringing together the strengths of SG, MVIS and P&D, building on the practical innovation and problem-solving the group has built its reputation on, to bring customers solutions that make a difference and are actually useful to them.
“There’s more to build,” he said. “But we have a dedicated team and I’m grateful for= them building it.”
