20mph opponents plan go slow protests

Protestors in Wales are planning a “National Convoy Day” on Saturday, driving to Cardiff to show their opposition to the new country-wide residential 20 mile per hour speed limit.

The South Wales Argus reports the go-slow is being organised by a 57 year old from Cardiff, with convoys from Newtown, Magor Services, Pont Abraham Services and Swansea planned to all travel to Cardiff.

“Safety on the roads is on the onus of the individual,” the paper quotes organiser Kevin Buckle. “Drivers have paid a lot of money to pass some extremely intense tests.”

The report adds that, when asked what he would say to people affected by the protest, Mr Buckle said: “Those finding it annoying are those who don’t understand the damage this 20mph is doing to Wales as a whole.”

There are two further convoys planned in north Wales headed to Bangor and Wrexham Services.
