A project to resurface the U4012 Bretby Lane in Burton will begin next week. This Staffordshire County Council highways scheme, costing £730,000, involves resurfacing the route from the junction of Ashby Road and past the Bretby Lane roundabout right up to the South Derbyshire boundary.

As part of the project, the junctions of Moat Bank, Melbourne Avenue and Empire Road will also get a smooth new surface.

Work will start from Monday 12 October and is expected to take around two months to complete.

For the first month, roadworks will be carried out under temporary traffic lights. Then, for the remainder of the project, resurfacing will be completed under full road closures between the hours of 7.30am and 5pm. Outside of these times, the road will remain open.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place, and crew members will be on hand to assist drivers with access to properties within the closure points.

Peter Mason, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Strategic Highways, said:

“I’m pleased to see this major investment in Bretby Lane getting underway. It’s an important route for people travelling in and around Burton, so giving it a new surface will make a real difference to everyone who uses it.

“This scheme is also a good example of our Highways Roadmap to a Better Network approach. We’re looking at the whole area and carrying out different repairs and improvements at the same time, rather than having to come back and disrupt residents and road users again in the future.

“We know roadworks can be frustrating, but this work will leave Bretby Lane and the nearby junctions in much better condition for the years ahead.”
