Lincolnshire County Council is the latest authority to select Yutraffic FUSION, Yunex Traffic’s innovative real-time, multimodal network control solution.
Developed with Transport for London, Yutraffic FUSION enables all modes of transport to be modelled and optimised to improve network efficiency, reduce congestion and improve air quality. By implementing Yutraffic FUSION, authorities are making their road networks and communities healthier, more sustainable, and more attractive.
With approximately 9,000 kilometres of highway across the county, Lincolnshire has the sixth largest road network in England. Through the deployment of Yutraffic FUSION, the Council is seeking to improve the flow of all modes of transport across its network, with the system set to control 67 nodes across 15 regions.
Yunex Traffic explains that, whilst Yutraffic FUSION maintains familiar concepts for split, cycle and offset optimisation, it provides more sophisticated modelling and prediction that is iteratively refined in a digital twin before implementation. This means it delivers improved overall journey times for all detected road users, as well as minimising recovery time and associated network disruption that can follow prioritisation for buses and emergency vehicles.
“Yutraffic FUSION therefore makes prioritisation easier to support, as any transport mode can be prioritised, with the system’s multimodal control allowing the relative weighting of different transport modes (pedestrians, bicycles, buses, cars, lorries, ambulances etc) to be configured for individual nodes and links,” the company says in a statement. “Local authority policy commitments, such as promoting active travel or providing fair access to the network for specific road users, can therefore be configured within the system and immediately implemented, with Yutraffic FUSION balancing competing modal demands in accordance with these policy weightings to deliver sophisticated network optimisation.”
Wilke Reints, Managing Director of Yunex Traffic in the UK, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this new contract to not only continue, but also build on our work with Lincolnshire County Council. We believe that innovation should drive progress, and with Yutraffic FUSION at the forefront of adaptive traffic control solutions, it will empower the Council to leverage the system’s multimodal control to optimise traffic flow, minimise disruptions, and meet its evolving transport policy needs.”
Anthony Gent, Principal Engineer (Traffic Signals) at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “The DfT’s Green Light Fund has allowed Lincolnshire County Council to invest in new technology and adopt the latest adaptive control system in Yutraffic FUSION. We’re really looking forward to reaping the benefits that the system will bring for all users of our network and interfacing new and advanced detection to help us prioritise public transport and active travel. The works package from Yunex Traffic will include installation, testing, training, and validation, that will leave us with a robust and innovative solution which we can build on in the years to come.”
Continuously monitoring approaching traffic and effectively managing the often-competing demands of cars, HGVs, buses, taxis, pedestrians, and cyclists, Yutraffic FUSION provides a highly configurable, future-proof platform designed to support and empower UK local authorities. Delivered by Yunex Traffic, the system benefits from its cloud infrastructure, with continuous monitoring and regular updates ensuring optimal performance.
Yunex Traffic concludes that: “Proven in deployments across the UK and internationally, Yutraffic FUSION is already enhancing network efficiency, with its intuitive, industry-leading graphical user interface enabling seamless control and configuration. And all this is achieved without the disruption typically caused by large-scale infrastructure schemes.”
