The Menai Suspension Bridge was forced to close temporarily on Friday to allow an inspection to be carried out after an “overweight” vehicle crossed the structure.
There is currently a weight restriction in place on the bridge as repair works are ongoing, says North Wales Live. When this is breached the bridge has to shut for an inspection. The driver could also face a penalty.
Traffic Wales said:
“Due to an overweight vehicle crossing the bridge earlier today the road must be closed to carry out an inspection of the bridge. We will reopen the bridge as soon as it is safe to do so.
“Apologies for the inconvenience but our priority is your safety. We wish to remind you that only vehicles under 7.5t are allowed to use Menai Bridge.”
Crossbeam work on the bridge was completed on 28 March, and Phase 2 works have started and, subject to weather, the under bridge scaffolding will be installed in the coming weeks.
